Tis the Season for Knit Socks: Alex's Mount Airy Socks

As you probably know, Alex is a sock addict, and I'm addicted to making socks. (That's why our marriage works.) I present the latest pair of knit socks.

The socks remind me of Ernie from Sesame Street's sweater, for some reason. And that makes me smile. (Bert and Ernie were totally my favorite Sesame Street characters!)

Yarn: Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Pure 100% Merino Superwash
We found this yarn over the summer at Knit Long Island, a store tucked away on a pretty little street. I had never seen this brand before, but when we came home I spotted it at Black Mountain Yarn Shop. Definitely one of those yarns that you don't pay attention to at first, but then you start seeing it everywhere.

I love self-striping yarns because they never look in the hank they way they look when you start knitting with them. It's like a neat surprise. I also love how the heel looks a little different because of the shorter rows.

I usually go for cuff-down socks, but lately I've been knitting lots of toe-up socks and kind of loving it. I'm not gonna discriminate, though. All socks are welcome on my needles!
