About Me

I've been crafty forever. When I was a kid in Kentucky, I gifted my mom everything from cross stitched projects to (poorly) sewn pillows. My mamaw was a wonderful seamstress, and the most important thing she taught me was how to be resourceful. She once showed me how to sew a doll skirt using a roll of 2" binding. I thought she was a genius.

My mom is crafty, too. She doesn't knit or crochet, but she sews and can create anything you ask her to. When my brother and I were kids, she made all our Halloween costumes plus any kind of costumes for plays or special days at school. Today she still does this for my niece and nephew. I love getting phone calls from her that go something like this: "Kinsley wants a sparkly cape that's reversible and has rhinestones. What do you think is the best way to sew something like that?" In high school, I told her I wanted to make a backpack out of a pair of jeans, and she helped me make that happen. She's up for anything.

Crafts were always in my life, but it wasn't until I got a job at Martha Stewart.com that they played into my professional life. I worked there for about five years before moving back to Appalachia, and now I live in Asheville, North Carolina, with my husband Alex.

I'm self-employed today as a craft writer, copyeditor, and proofread. I love all crafts, but knitting is my main squeeze. I think I would love sewing equally if I didn't have to do full bust adjustments constantly.

Crafts keep me going. They keep me creative and happy, and I love sharing them with you here. If you'd like to contact me, email me at feisty.redhead.crafts[at]gmail.com.

Love,
Ashley
