Crochet Mermaid Tail Blanket

Yes, I'm still posting Christmas gift photos. There were just so many! This one was a crochet mermaid tail blanket for my 4 year-old niece, Kinsley.

You may remember that I made a shark blanket for my nephew, Carson. This is the shark blanket's much gentler counterpart. No bloody teeth here!

Pattern: Loosely based on this mermaid tail pattern from a blog

I used the shell stitch that the blog post outlined, but I joined mine into the round much earlier and created my decreases differently. I also just kind of winged it on where the decreases went. There was not much of a plan in place here.

You can see that when I started crocheting in the round, it changed the shell pattern a little bit. It's not too noticeable until you see the entire tail from a distance.

I left a bit of a slit at the top to make it easier for Kinsley to wiggle into it. She didn't have any problems getting into it, and apparently neither did her mom. A few days after Christmas, I spotted a photo on Instagram of my sister-in-law's legs inside the mermaid tail. She's now requesting an adult-sized blanket for her 2016 Christmas gift.
