The tag says "Hand-embroidered crewel." I own crewel kits and The New Crewel book, a gift from my cousin and his wife this past Christmas, but I haven't had the patience to sit down and try it. Seeing this embroidery in person is really inspiring.
Have you tried crewel? Reassure me. Tell me it's awesome.
That is a beautiful kit! Crewel is easy and way faster than embroidery with embroidery thread. You could substitute satin stitch in places just to speed things up a bit.
ReplyDeleteyou have reassured me as well. i really hope it's easier that embroidery because i've been wanting to pick it up. there's just too many things to learn. right now i'm hooked on quilting....

ReplyDeleteQUESTION: Do you know anything about turning a piece like this into a pillow or something other than what it started out as? I have some of my mother's crewel work and would love to do it (pro would have to do it ... I can't sew :/...) but am looking for anyone who may have tried it. ABOUT CREWEL: My family has always loved it; said it's easier than embroidery. I'm a needlepoint lover learning to embroider so what can I tell ya? ReplyDeleteHi Molly! I would sew the crewel work into a pillow cover and then slip it over a pillow insert. I've never tried it, but I think it's a great idea for memorykeeping you can look at and enjoy every day!
